Land Use Goals and Objectives

Round Valley Topography

Establish a tribal planning capability and ordinances that provide a framework for the beneficial use of reservation lands. Be proactive in regaining tribal lands lost due to federal legislation and illegal transfers. Protect tribal lands from trespass and encroachment.

Land Use Objectives

  • Develop and adopt a Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map.

  • Be proactive in pursuing land and damage claims under the Indian Claims Limitation Act.

  • Restore lands within the reservation boundaries to tribal trust whenever feasible.

  • Develop and adopt a Land Acquisition and Consolidation Plan to acquire additional lands and to consolidate tribal landholdings.

  • Standardize residential lease agreements and requirements.

  • Develop and adopt a Community Master Plan for the Wilson Ranch property.

  • Expand pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths to provide alternatives to busy streets and Highway 162.

  • The transportation system should include walking trails, horse trails and bike trails.

  • Utilize the BIA/BLM Cadastral Survey Program.

  • Establish tribal right-of-ways to landlocked parcels and along the traditional trail system.

  • Attractions which are distinctive to the Valley including recreational assets, sites of historic importance and areas of scenic beauty, should be managed to enhance the Valley as a unique, desirable and attractive place to live in and to visit.

  • Moderate and high-density residential areas should be concentrated where a full range of urban utilities and services can be furnished most efficiently and economically.

  • Housing for the Valley’s inhabitants should be provided in compact patterns.

  • Residential, commercial and industrial development should be directed away from prime agricultural lands and sensitive natural resource areas of the Valley.

  • Develop a well-balanced system of parks and open space to provide for outdoor recreation.

  • Promote environmental clean-up activities.
